Review + Swatches: Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons

Hello Beautiful Strangers!

Everyone knows how important SPF is, especially in summer. And while we slather it all over our face in the hopes of preventing aging, we often overlook our lips. Putting on a lip colour as well as an SPF is so tedious, and in summer you just want something light-weight and fuss-free. So without sacrificing either, the Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons are the perfect solution! These bright glossy lip crayons boast a waterproof formula that provides 10 hours of hydration and an SPF of 15.

I have the shades Red Sunrise and Orange Punch. I picked these up a month or so ago and I’ve been really enjoying them.

Red Sunrise isn’t your average red as it leans towards pink. It’s kind of like the colour of raspberries. It’s nice and gives a really juicy pout, but I just don’t seem to like sheerer red lips all that much. When it comes to a red lip I prefer to go bold or go home.

Orange Punch is the one that I’ve been reaching for, a lot. It’s not exactly orange, more like a warm coral; I guess the colour of fruit punch you could say. It transforms your lips into a gorgeous peachy pout. It brings enough colour to brighten your complexion, yet is very subtle. I would highly recommend this shade as it’ll compliment all skin tones.

Being “waterproof” is a big claim, what exactly does a waterproof lip product entitle? But I would say that these crayons are pretty long lasting. They leave a slight stain and on the multiple occasions when I’d applied these an hour or two before lunch, the colour was definitely still there after I’d finished my meal. Being glossy, there is some slip, and if you put too much on you may end up with a clown mouth when you eat and drink.

Ten hours of hydration is a bit of an exaggeration, I’ve never worn a lipstick for 10 hours (have you?)… But the Bourjois lip crayons definitely feel very comfortable and hydrating throughout wear. These are just as moisturising, if not more than your average lip balm. I also really like the scent of these, a mix of sunscreen, flowers and lollies. It’s subtle but quite addicting.

I prefer these over the Rimmel Colour Rush balms (reviewed here) as the Rimmel ones are not very hydrating – they cling to dry patches a little, and your lips start to feel a little puckered up over time. The moisturising Bourjois formula glides on effortlessly and stays hydrating throughout wear. While the Rimmel ones pack on more colour, they can apply a little unevenly. The Bourjois crayons are sheerer (they do build up to a high colour intensity), thus easier to get right. I also favour the scent of Bourjois over Rimmel (vanilla play-doh).

The Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons are made in Italy and contain 2.75g of product. They come in six shades and are available at Sasa or Watsons, or online via ASOS/Feel Unique. There’s a plum one too which would be perfect for the colder months, but I’m kind of scared of dark lips.

Hope it's fabulously sunny wherever you are,

Linzi :)
