Loves of June

Hello beautiful strangers, it's crazy how fast time goes by as you get older. Here's what I've been loving for the month of June.

YSL Touche Éclat
I've been getting back into the habit of using Touche Éclat lately. I'm always in a rush so I always end up doing my makeup on the train. When you're looking into your little pocket mirror applying this, it really doesn't look like it does much. But later on through out the day when you look at yourself in the mirror, you really notice how much brighter your under eyes look. I also use this to highlight down my nose, under my brow bone, in between my forehead and on my chin. It photographs so well, and you really do look so much livelier. I also like to use it as an eyeshadow primer, not only does it conceal your capillaries and other discolouration on your eyelids, it also brightens the intensity of your eyeshadow. It's especially helpful if you're using glittery shades. It's also great to even out the colour of your lips, so your lipsticks show up more true to colour. It's thin consistency means that it won't interfere with the way your lipstick feels on your lips. It's also great on your cupids bow to make your lip colour pop even more.

Batiste Dry Shampoo - Wild (sassy & daring)
I've been so busy this month so dry shampoo has been my BFF. My hair used to be super long so I was really lazy about washing it. So on hectic days I would just fluff out my hair with dry shampoo and then pull it all up into a bun. People always commented on my "chic up-do", when really, I was just hiding my dirty hair. I gave myself a spontaneous haircut two weeks ago (snipped off 40cm of hair, leaving a shoulder-length bob), so hair washing isn't such a hassle any more, but it's still so handy to have dry shampoo since HK is so hot, it's good to be able to freshen up those bits that stick to your face when you sweat. I like the scent of this one (feisty oriental floral), the scent lingers all day (and more) so make sure you can stand it before you pick this up. I used to use the classic one, it smelt so much like car refreshener it made me feel "car-sick".

Zara soft leather Ballet Flats
I first saw these in a haul video Fleur DeForce posted a while back and really liked the look of them, so I went to have a look at Zara but I didn't get them because le BF said "you don't need any more shoes". Then I wore a pair of old shoes out one day and for some reason they felt so big and I couldn't walk without my shoe flying off my foot every few metres. And since I was gonna be doing lots of walking that day, I went to Zara in desperate need of comfortable shoes that would stay on my feet and I picked up these! I can do a lot of walking in them comfortably, but since they're flats, the soles are really thin so you don't really get much support and at the end of the day the bottom of your feet are quite sore. I've had these for over two months now, and I wear them pretty much everyday as they go with everything! I'm pretty fond of Zara shoes in general because they really do making some damn good looking shoes. And Zara is having their Summer sale at the moment, so run!

bloglovin' Android App
This is probably my favourite thing all month! I'm utterly obsessed with the bloglovin' phone app, it's so convenient to be able to catch up on all my favourite blogs on the go, as I don't like being on the computer very much, in my brain, computer = work. I tend to check every morning while I have breakfast (unlike sensible people who read the newspaper). Btw, have you followed me on bloglovin' yet? hint hint :)
Thought Catalog
I haven't read Thought Catalog since highschool (that's 4 years ago), so now that I have the bloglovin' app I've been able to catch up with the latest posts. I freaking love Thought Catalog, the posts are so hilarious.

Books of the Month: The Magicians & The Magician King by Lev Grossman
Another thing that you don't have time for once you get to Uni is reading. I've been making time for books this year and I try to read at least a book a month. This month I've finished two: The Magicians &  The Magician King by Lev Grossman. Aside from the Harry Potter series, I haven't really read any other books about magic. Grossman's magic is completely different to the Harry Potter world. Instead of Hogwarts, it's a college (university) called Brakehills. The setting is contemporary, and the book makes references to modern literature and pop culture. I wouldn't say this is a "favourite" but it was very interesting, and Grossman really does have a crazy imagination (read: f**ked up mind). The story is complex and rather grim. It's very existentialist and rather noir. Unlike Rowlings's descriptive style, Grossman doesn't tell you all the much about the characters' looks and other traits. The protagonist, Quentin, is neither likeable nor unlikeable. Also there are so many characters, you lose track and get confused. I really enjoyed the first part of the first book (The Magicians) and the last part of the sequel (The Magician King), other than that, the books were kind of long and tedious to get through. The third book is coming out in August and I'm not entirely sure if I want to pick that up...

Another really exciting thing in life this month is starting my blog! Today marks the three week birthday of my blog; I started with my Loves of May so it only seems fitting to round off the month with my June favourites. Thank you to all of you who've been following along so far! I really hope you've enjoyed what you read, and please do comment so that I know you aren't robots!

Happy first of July everyone, and if you life in HK, I hope you make the most of your holiday! My BF is dragging me to the demonstration -.- , what are you doing?

With love,
Linzi x
